Bank Reliability Index

Compare Indian banks by UPI success rate, failure rate, and average response time — so you can pick a bank whose payments actually go through.

What The Index Measures

Success Rate

Share of UPI transactions that complete successfully. Higher is better — top banks sit above 98%.

Failure Rate

Share of payments declined on the bank's side — server load, downtime or technical declines.

Response Time

Average time, in milliseconds, a bank takes to process a request. Lower means fewer stuck payments.

How Reliability Grades Are Assigned

Each bank's grade is an indicative assessment based primarily on its UPI success rate, with failure rate and average response time used as supporting signals to separate banks with similar success rates. Grades are a guide to relative reliability, not a pass/fail verdict.

Grade A+ ≈ 98.5%+ Exceptional — typical UPI success rate in this range
Grade A ≈ 97–98.4% Strong — typical UPI success rate in this range
Grade B+ ≈ 96–97% Good — typical UPI success rate in this range
Grade B ≈ 95–96% Fair — typical UPI success rate in this range
Grade C ≈ 94–95% Weak — typical UPI success rate in this range
Grade D < 94% Poor — typical UPI success rate in this range

Bands are approximate and indicative, not strict cut-offs. Figures are compiled from NPCI UPI ecosystem statistics; the letter grades are IFSCTeam's editorial assessment and are not an official NPCI rating.

UPI Reliability Questions

What does the Bank Reliability Index measure?
It ranks banks on three UPI performance signals sourced from NPCI's bank-wise statistics: the UPI success rate (share of transactions that complete), the failure rate (share declined on the bank's side), and the average response time in milliseconds. Together these reflect how dependable a bank's payment infrastructure is.
What counts as a good UPI success rate?
A success rate at or above 98% is excellent and typical of well-run major banks. Between 96% and 98% is acceptable; below 95% usually signals technical strain or frequent bank-side declines. NPCI separately tracks "technical decline" rates that banks are expected to keep low.
Why do UPI payments fail at some banks?
Most avoidable failures are bank-side technical declines — server downtime, capacity limits, or maintenance windows — rather than a problem with the UPI app you use. The reliability index isolates this bank-side dimension so you can compare institutions fairly.
What does the response time tell me?
Response time is the average time, in milliseconds, a bank takes to process a UPI request. Lower is better: faster banks confirm or decline payments quickly, which reduces stuck or "pending" transactions during high-traffic periods.
Does a high success rate guarantee my payment will go through?
No. The index reflects aggregate, historical reliability across many transactions. Any single payment can still fail because of your balance, limits, network, or the beneficiary bank. A high-ranked bank simply fails less often on average.
How current is this ranking data?
The rankings are built from NPCI's periodically published bank-wise UPI performance figures, not a live feed. Use them as a reliable directional comparison of banks rather than a real-time status check.
